World Day of the Sick was launched by Pope John Paul II in 1992. He designated February 11, Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, to be an annual day of prayer and consideration of the sick and of those who care for them. It is a day on which we reflect on the Christian meaning of illness, pain and suffering – whether we are healthy or not. People in the medical profession are invited through this day to recognise and value the spiritual dimension of their work.
Remembering those who are sick
While you are here at Sacred Space you might
- take some time with this psalm and gospel reading
- pray for the sick while visiting the Chapel of Intentions
- send an ecard to encourage someone who is sick or who cares for the sick to let them know you remember them in your prayer

The image of the sets of footprints on the beach has become popular as the parable of life. It has been used all over the world, in many languages and presented in many ways. Margaret Fishback and Paul Powers tell how this poem has influenced their lives. The music was composed by Hugh Johnson (http://www.footprintsthesong.com) in gratitude for the insight that Footprints brought him.
